From the Portrait and Biographical Record of Sheboygan County, Wis., 1898:

Adolph Lebermann, Page 639

ADOLPH LEBERMANN, Sheriff of Sheboygan County, was born in Bavaria, Germany, June 1, 1837, and is a son of Joseph Lebermann.  His parents were also natives of Bavaria, where they spent their lives.  Both are now deceased.

In 1852 the subject of this sketch, at the age of fifteen years, emigrated to the United States.  On reaching this country he went directly to Milwaukee, Wis., and then to Oshkosh, where he made his home, and where he married Miss Hedwig Von Kurz, December 26, 1856.  Mrs. Lebermann was born in Austria, and is a daughter of Joseph Von Kurz.  She came to America in 1848.

Mr. Lebermann was engaged in the dry-goods business at Oshkosh until 1860, when he returned to Milwaukee.  That same year he went to St. Louis, and the following December enlisted in the Fourth Missouri Cavalry for the Kansas War.  Having served several months with his regiment, he abandoned it and came to Sheboygan, where he engaged as clerk for C. T. Moore, a merchant.  Later he was employed in draying several years, and for one year was engaged in the clothing business.  Again he went to St. Louis, and was on the road a few years as a traveling salesman.  Later he traveled three years for H. Rathe, of Fond du Lac, Wis.  Next he was engaged in merchandising at Sheboygan for a time.  In 1877 he took the contract for bottling beer for the Schreier Brewery, which he has carried on until the present time, covering a period of sixteen years.

Mr. and Mrs. Lebermann have been blessed with a large family, eleven children, of whom seven are living.  Arthur married Maud Jensen, and lives in Astoria, Ore.; Hugo married Alma Herfurth, and died in Fremont, Neb., at the age of twenty-eight; Alfred F. married Annie Clarke, and resides in Chicago; Annie is the wife of William Calhoun, of Sheboygan; George W. married Emma Schaub, and resides in Sheboygan; Jennie is the wife of Edward Koch, of Chicago; Louis, Laura and Joseph are at home.  These, with two that died in infancy, constituted the family.

Mr. Lebermann is a Democrat in politics, and in the fall of 1892 was elected Sheriff of Sheboygan, in which office he is now serving.  Socially, Mr. Lebermann is a member of Armenia Lodge No. 26, S. of H.; of Sheboygan Hain No. 10, Druids, and of Lodge No. 517, Harugari.  He makes an efficient and popular officer, and is much respected as a citizen.
