Charles H. Volquarts, Page 587

CHARLES H. VOLQUARTS, photographer of Plymouth, established business in that place in 1879, and has the oldest gallery in the city.  He is a native of Wisconsin, born in New Holstein, Calumet County, June 7, 1855, and is a son of Henry and Dorthea (Buensow) Volquarts.  His parents were natives of Germany, the father born in Eutin, and the mother in Kiel.  The former emigrated to the United States in 1849, and the latter came some four years later.  They were married in the Fatherland.  The father died September 20, 1893, at Glenbeulah, Sheboygan County, which has been their home since 1863.

Charles H. received his education principally in the Sheboygan County schools, and after leaving school went to Fond du Lac, where he learned the machinist's trade, at which he worked some five years.  In 1879, he began his present business at Glenbeulah, and six months later opened a gallery at Plymouth, which he has continued till the present time.

Mr. Volquarts was married October 1, 1884, in Plymouth, the lady of his choice being Miss Mary Ackermann, a daughter of J. M. Ackermann.  Mrs. Volquarts was born in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan County.  Unto the young couple two children, a daughter and a son, have been born,  Lillah T. and Victor H., who both claim Plymouth as their birthplace.

Mrs. Volquarts is a consistent member of the Lutheran Church.  Mr. Volquarts is a Democrat in his political faith.  He is the engineer of the Plymouth Fire Department.
