GUSTAV CARL SEIDEMANN, deceased, was born near the city of Gera, grand duchy of Saxe-Weimar, Germany, on the 27th of December, 1810.  As the son of a drover, he assisted his father in that occupation during his minority, and upon becoming of age engaged in hotel-keeping at Oppburg.  In 1829, his marriage to Miss Christine Liebner was celebrated, and of this union were born seven children, as follows:  Augusta, Hugo, Alma, Pauline, Ida, Herman and Marie.  In her native land the mother of these children passed from the living in December, 1842.

    In December, 1843, Mr. Seidemann was again married, the lady of his choice being Miss Wilhelmine Dix, who was born in the principality of Scleisz, December 19, 1820.  By this marriage he had four children:  Alvine, Frank, Agnes and Edwin.

    Having continued the hotel business in the Fatherland until 1849, Mr. Seidemann bade goodbye to home and native country, and with his family emigrated to the United States.  Owing to the unfavorable weather for sailing, it required fifteen weeks to make the journey from the port where they embarked to Milwaukee.  The family located on a farm in the town of Granville, Milwaukee County, where the father carried on agricultural pursuits for seven or eight years.  At the expiration of that period they removed to Franklin, Sheboygan County, and after a residence there of seven years spent five years in Howard's Grove.  Returning to Franklin, Mr. Seidemann made that village his home until his death.  For twelve years he was there employed as a brewer.  His death occurred December 12, 1887.  His wife, who still survives, is at present making her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Agnes Schroeder.
