Prof. Alfonzo Troeller, Page 254
PROF. ALFONZO TROELLER, of Sheboygan, is the teacher of music and German in the Second Ward School of that city, including the High School department. He has served efficiently in the capacity above mentioned for four years, or from the beginning of the school year of 1889. Mr. Troeller is a native of Alsace, now a part of Germany, then belonging to France, where he was born on the 9th of September, 1853, his father being John Troeller. In 1854, when the subject of this sketch was less than one year old, the family emigrated from Europe to America and located on the village of Fredericksburg, Norfolk County, Province of Ontario. When Prof. Troeller was about eight years old the family removed from the Province of Ontario to Ft. Wayne, Ind., where the father taught a parochial school, the subject of this sketch being one of his pupils. Four years later the family removed to Homewood, Cook County, Ill., where the father also engaged in teaching. When fourteen years of age Mr. Troeller entered the German Lutheran Seminary at Addison, Du Page County, where he pursued the regular teachers' course of training, fitting himself for the profession of teaching. He graduated in 1873. Soon after he engaged in teaching the graded public school at Freistadt, in Ozaukee County, Wis., where he remained six years, or until 1879. He then went to St. Louis, Mo., where he was engaged in teaching English and music in a graded and parochial school. In 1884 he went to Milwaukee, where he was principal of a large parochial school employing six teachers. There he remained until he went to Sheboygan in 1889. The parents of the subject of this sketch are now residents of Milwaukee. He is one of a family of eight children, five of whom are living. In 1877, Prof. Troeller was married to Miss Caroline Schumann, a native of Noble County, Ind. They have four daughters, namely: Laura, Olga, Lydia and Clara. Prof. Troeller is a gentleman of liberal attainments and a successful instructor in both instrumental and vocal music.
